WHITE STONE—Calvin Polk of White Stone died Monday, August 28, 2023.
He was born February 4, 1930, to the late Ottie and Cora Taylor-Polk.
Calvin received his education in the public schools of Lancaster County. He joined Mount Vernon Baptist Church at an early age, then becoming a deacon. Later in life he was a member of New St. John’s Baptist Church.
In his early years, he was a dedicated fisherman and a seafood worker. Calvin joined the armed forces of the United States and served in the Korean War. He was a member of the Palestine Lodge #100 for over 50 years.
He is survived by his children, Calvin C. Polk of Kilmarnock, Barbara Ann Holmes of White Stone and Paul Polk of White Stone. He was blessed with 10 grandchildren, Sandra Harden, Shawanna Payne, Amber Polk, Brandon Polk, Shameika Gamer, Ernest James Polk Jr., Miranda Hickman, Annitra Ball, Paul Polk Jr., and Calvin Cornell Polk Jr.; great-grandchildren RyJaeh, Marco, Eternity, Trinity, Nicholas, Kevin Jr., Chantz, Anari E. III, Eamayah, Aiyanna, Brianna, Cambree, Tamirra and Layla; great-great grandchildren RyJanae, RyJaeh Jr., NyKelia, Demonie Kamari and Savien; and brother, Nordell Polk.
A funeral was held September 3 at New St. John’s Baptist Church, Kilmarnock. Interment followed at Mount Vernon Baptist Church, White Stone.
