One Love Caribbean Steel Drum Band will bring island music to the park and playground at Campbell Memorial Presbyterian Church, 3712 Weems Road, Weems, from 5-8:30 p.m. July 20.
“Island Joy Comes to Weems” is the first of Campbell’s new four-part concert series centered on joy, peace and love. The free program of calypso, reggae and island music is appropriate for all ages. There will be a limbo contest and other island games.
Envisioning the series, chairman Susan Cousins sought a cross-section of musical events that would be different from other offerings in the area.
“We didn’t know of anyone who’d done a steel band,” said Cousins, who found the One Love band in Norfolk.
