Capitol Opera Richmond to perform La Boheme at Good Luck Cellars Feb. 17

The Northern Neck Orchestra (NNO) will present a performance of Puccini’s romantic masterpiece La Boheme by the Capitol Opera Richmond (COR) at 4 p.m. on February 17 at Good Luck Cellars, 1025 Goodluck Road, Kilmarnock.

The COR’s 90-minute adaptation of the timeless love story set amid life in the Latin Quarter of 19th century Paris will feature a cast of seven.

Tickets are $25 and may be purchased at www.northernneckorchestra.org, or at the door. Students are admitted free with online reservations.

La Boheme remains one of the most popular operas in the repertory more than 120 years after its premiere, said Eric Jacobson of NNO. It later served as the inspiration for the Broadway musical Rent.

“The work’s soaring melodies sung by the beautiful voices of the COR will make this a very special musical event,” he said.

COR president Karine Marshall said the COR is a regular visitor to Kilmarnock, most recently performing Mozart’s The Magic Flute at Good Luck Cellars last year.

“La Boheme includes some of the most memorable music in opera,” said Marshall. “We’re delighted to be sharing it with our friends on the Northern Neck.”

The COR cast includes Ben Kwak as the poet Rodolfo, Sarah Kate Walston as the delicate seamstress Mimi, Victoria Kinney as the flirtatious Musetta, Chase Peak as the artist Marcello, John Tyndall as the musician Schaunard, James McClure as the philosopher Colline and Steve Travers as the toy vendor Parpignol.

The production is directed by Jessica Harika. Pianist David Robbins will accompany the cast.
