
GREENSBORO, NC—Carroll Howard Davis Jr., 93, of Greensboro, North Carolina, passed away on July 31, 2024, at WhiteStone Retirement Community in Greensboro. Carroll was born on February 9, 1931, in Hyacinth, to Carroll and Effie Davis Sr.
He grew up in Weems and graduated from Kilmarnock High School. Carroll went on to serve with the U.S. Navy, where he developed a strong sense of duty and patriotism.
He worked as a manufacturer’s representative for V.P. Lowe & Associates for nearly 50 years, where he was awarded Salesman of the Year multiple times and rose to become president of the organization prior to his retirement. Carroll’s dedication and hard work earned him respect and admiration from his colleagues and clients alike.
Carroll was known for his gift of gab, lively sense of humor and love for his family. He loved to sing and was a member of several barbershop quartets. He frequently spent weekends and holidays visiting his family’s home in Weems. He was a devoted member of Friendly Avenue Baptist Church in Greensboro, where he formed many lasting friendships. Carroll also dedicated time to volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, specifically at their thrift store. He enjoyed interacting with customers and staff, using his skills and experience to help support the store’s mission of raising funds to build homes for those in need.
Carroll is survived by his sons, Joseph (Dana) and John (Cynthia); his grandchildren, Kathryn, Matthew, Laura, Sam and Rachel; six great-grandchildren; and his sister, Patricia (Davis) Hinton.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ann, and his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 8, at Friendly Avenue Baptist Church in Greensboro. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. at the church before the service.
Additionally, a viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, August 9, at Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock. A burial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 10, at Campbell Presbyterian Church in Weems.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Anchor House Ministries, an orphanage operated by his son in Auburndale, Florida, or Friendly Avenue Baptist Church.
