Celebrating heritage

John Belfield, enacted by Charles Belfield, led the flag bearing procession opening last Saturday’s 11th annual Commemoration of the February 27, 1766, signing of the Leedstown Resolutions. The celebration took place at Ingleside Vineyards, three miles from Leedstown, and honored the 150 men who risked their lives and property to sign the resolutions protesting the 1765 Stamp Act. The document served as a template for the Declaration of Independence 10 years later. Saturday’s sold-out event was presented by the Northern Neck of Virginia Historical Society.
