Child care facility gets green light from planners

HEATHSVILLE—Carolyn Crockett is one step closer to opening a child care facility in Burgess after the Northumberland planning commission on Thursday, March 20, approved a conditional use permit request for the former doctors office and most recently a site for the Boys & Girls Club at 740 Jessie duPont Memorial Highway.

Crockett said the services are much needed as there are only a few licensed day cares in the area.

“I’m working with the department of social services and they have a long list of individuals that are waiting,” she said.

Initially, she will hire one or two people to care for the children, starting with toddlers and expanding into after-school care and infants at a later date.

The commission unanimously, 6-0, recommended supervisors approve the CUP. Chris Cralle, Vivian Diggs, John Kost, Patrick O’Brien, Garfield Parker and Charles Williams voted….
