Christ Church to host student dig on June 18

The Foundation for Historic Christ Church invites area students to participate in a real archaeological dig on June 18 at Historic Christ Church, 420 Christ Church Road, Weems.

The excavations are part of a preservation project to capture and divert stormwater away from the church, which was completed in 1735 and is Lancaster County’s only National Historic Landmark, said executive director Robert J. Teagle.

Students from elementary to high school can sign up for a two-hour shift, 9-11 a.m., 11 a.m.-1 p.m., or 1-3 p.m.

Students will help archaeologists dig around Christ Church and screen for artifacts….
