Yankee Point Yacht Club (YPYC) will sponsor a free “No Chart Conversation,” open to the public, at 7 p.m. Friday, October 20, at the YPYC Clubhouse, 734 Oak Hill Road, Lancaster.
The conversation will focus on how to navigate small boats in the 21st century since the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will no longer be updating traditional paper charts. According to organizer Warren Hottle, the event will address the needs of those who might not want to buy a $1,000 plus chart plotter and subscriptions to chart updates.
“We have some alternatives to using the new-fangled Electronic Navigation Charts,” he said.
There are numerous applications currently on the market for use with cell phones, laptops and notebooks that will allow users to know where they are and show where they are headed….
