Community response locates missing boater

REEDVILLE—On Wednesday, July 12, Smith Point Sea Rescue (SPSR) was dispatched by the Northumberland County Sheriff’s Office to find an 18-foot skiff and its young fisherman, disabled near Tangier Island.

With a questionable latitude and longitude position in hand, Rescue I with a crew of four sped to the location from its base on Cockrell Creek in Reedville, reported SPSR secretary Bill Turville.

After several hours of searching while trying to contact the youth, SPSR was unable to locate the vessel in the area around the target ships, east of Tangier Island. With darkness fast approaching….
