The Yankee Point Racing and Cruising Club will host a Community Sail on the Corrotoman River at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 19, launching from the YPRCC Clubhouse, 734 Oak Hill Road, Lancaster.
The event is open to everyone and is designed to offer up to 21 people an opportunity to learn about the joys of sailing, said organizer Warren Hottle.
“We’ve got experienced skippers on deck and will be using boats that have cruised the Chesapeake Bay,” said Hottle.
Life jackets will be provided and the club urges families as well as individuals to participate.
“Our objective is to share the actual experience of sailing, as well as to acquaint folks with some of the finer points involved in setting sails and maintaining a course. And we hope the weather will be as good as it normally is this time of year,” he said.
Participants and skippers will convene for a short introduction at the clubhouse before sailing. After the sail, a bag lunch will be provided and sailors will have an additional opportunity to ask questions.
The event is free. To register, contact Hottle at w.hottle@verizon.net or 804-475-9393.
