SALUDA—Concern over the expansion of Hummel Field in Topping into a regional airport was aired September 3 during a public comment period at the Middlesex board of supervisors meeting.
Robert Roberts of Topping lives near the airport across Locklies Creek Road from Eckhard’s Restaurant in Topping. He said he is a new resident of the county and lived in Gloucester County for 36 years “when it got too crowded, so I came over here.
“I have a unique perspective on the airport,” said Roberts. “I look out my kitchen window daily and I see airplanes coming and going all the time. I have had a problem with them flying close to my house and I’ve repeatedly requested that they not fly close or over my house.”
Roberts said he cut down two trees because they were close to the runway and he thought that might help…
