County seeks possession of 58 dogs seized in Burgess

HEATHSVILLE—Some 58 dogs of varying ages and breeds were seized by Northumberland County Animal Control officers on March 16, according to Northumberland Sheriff Johnny Beauchamp.

A search warrant was executed at 38 Blundons Road, Burgess, where the dogs were being housed.

Charges are pending and the investigation is ongoing, he said. Charges could include animal cruelty or animal neglect.

According to court documents, a civil suit was filed by the Northumberland County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office against Phyllis D. Swift to have the dogs become property of the county. The hearing was initially scheduled for March 20 but has been continued until noon Monday, March 27, in Northumberland General District Court.
