Daniel “Danny” J. Kear

Daniel “Danny” J. Kear

LANCASTER—Daniel “Danny” J. Kear passed away at his home in Lancaster on December 30, 2020, surrounded by love.

Formerly of Fairfax, Virginia and Clifton, Danny was born on October 24, 1948, in Bronxville, N.Y., to John E. and Joan L. Kear. He was a graduate of Woodson High School and obtained his associate in business administration from Northern Virginia Community College. He married his loving wife of 32 years, Maria M. Kear, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Athens, Greece.

In addition to his wife, Danny is survived by his daughter, Caitlin J. Kear of Richmond; and son, Daniel J. (“DJ”) Kear II of Yorktown.

Danny was the owner of Broderick Bonding Agency, A-1 Bail Bonding Agency, Inc., and Kear Bonding Company, Inc. Danny was proud of his nearly 50 year career as a bail bondsman and his service to the bail bond industry is legendary.

He was the General Agent of Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and West Virginia for Accredited Surety & Casualty Company, Inc. for decades. Following the sale of Accredited, he wrote bonds with AIA Surety. Danny always strove to teach his agents and sub-agents the same values of professionalism, ethics and morality within the bail bond industry which he practiced very day.

Danny founded the Virginia Bondsmen’s Association in 1978. He was president of the Virginia Bail Bondsmen’s Association and held numerous other offices in the Virginia Bail Bondsmen’s Association over his distinguished career.  Additionally, in 1983, Danny served as vice-president of the East Coast division of Professional Bondsmen of the United States. Danny was regularly involved in all legislative and Department of Criminal Justice Services matters affecting bail bondsmen in Virginia and was active in local elections in Fairfax for decades.

A private funeral mass will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Kilmarnock. Due to COVID-19, there are no plans at this time for a public funeral service.

Danny loved to celebrate but loved his family and friends more and did not want to put anyone at risk. He wants everyone to be happy, have a drink of their choosing, and think of fond memories and the great life he lived. His love, smile, laugh, jokes and storytelling are greatly missed.

Donations in memory of Danny may be made to Riverside Tappahannock Hospice, 289 Tappahannock Road, Tappahannock, VA 22560.

Condolences and memories of Danny may be offered to the family at curriefuneral.com.
