Delegate’s Report

by Del. Margaret B. Ransome

I was sworn in for my fifth term as Delegate for the 99th House District last week. On the second day of session I was given my committee assignments. I will continue serving on courts of justice, commerce and labor, and agriculture, Chesapeake and natural resources.

The 2020 legislative session brings many changes. The Democrats are now the majority party in the House of Delegates for the first time in 23 years. The new Speaker of the House is Eileen Filler-Corn. Speaker Filler-Corn is the first woman ever elected as Speaker of the House of Delegates. Suzette Denslow was elected as the new Clerk of the House of Delegates and I was honored to lead the new Clerk into the House Chamber.

We are off to a new start in Richmond. My office was visited by the Northern Neck Soil and Water Conservation District, community bankers and teachers from Career and Tech School in Warsaw. This week we begin our work as our committees meet and start reviewing proposed legislation.

As always, I am truly honored to represent the 99th District. Contact my office at 698-1099 or at [email protected] if you have questions or concerns related to state government.
