HAGUE—Denise Marjorie Johnson Mingo, lovingly known as “Ma,”, “YaYa” and “Grammy,” passed away on June 11, 2026, at the age of 69.
Born on May 14, 1957, in Greenwich, Connecticut, Denise spent her childhood in New England before making Hague her home for most of her life. It was there that she built a life centered on family, friendship and community, creating a home that was always warm, welcoming and full of love.
Denise shared a remarkable life with her beloved husband, Clay. Together, they loved deeply, laughed often, and embraced life’s adventures with enthusiasm and joy. Whether raising their family, welcoming friends into their home, or setting off on their next adventure, they created a life rich with love, laughter and memories that will endure for generations. Though Clay preceded her in death, theirs was a partnership that left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to witness it.
Denise had a gift for making people feel at home. Her home and her heart were always open to anyone who needed either. Family, friends, neighbors and even strangers could count on finding a listening ear, a warm meal, a place to stay, or simply the comfort of knowing someone cared.
She found joy in gardening and crafting, creating beauty with her hands and sharing it generously with others. Those who knew Denise will remember her quick wit, infectious sense of humor and vibrant personality. She could light up a room with her laughter, deliver the perfect one-liner at just the right moment, and make everyone around her feel welcome. She was strong, resilient, compassionate and fiercely devoted to those she loved.
Above all else, Denise treasured her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend whose greatest happiness came from spending time with those she loved. As “Ma,” “Grammy” and “YaYa,” she created countless cherished memories and built a legacy of unconditional love that will continue to guide her family for years to come.
Denise is survived by her brother, David; her sister, Vivian; her sons, Brad and Max; her daughter, Heather; her daughters-in-law, Gina and Amanda; her son-in-law, Tim; her granddaughters, Brie, Tessa and Taylor; and her grandson, Brandon.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clay; her parents, Roy and Marjorie; her brother, Ian; and her son, Willy.
Though Denise’s passing leaves an immeasurable void, her legacy of love, generosity, laughter and unwavering devotion to family lives on in all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, forever loved and never forgotten.
