KILMARNOCK—Donald Melvin Headley, devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed peacefully at home in Kilmarnock on February 5, 2026, at the age of 81.
For 56 years, Don shared his life with his beloved wife, Margaret George Headley. Their marriage was a testament to enduring partnership—rooted in loyalty, humor and a deep affection that carried them through every season of life.
Don was the proud father of two children and later welcomed into his family their spouses, Daniel Headley and his wife, Julie, of Sellersburg, Indiana; and Lesley Spitzer and her husband, Rob, of Newport News. He delighted in his role as “Granddaddy” to his grandchildren—Emily Headley, Nathaniel Spitzer and Sarah Spitzer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David Melvin “Mel” Headley and Margaret Lokey Headley; and his brother, David Headley.
Don is survived by his sister-in-law, Mary Headley; and several nieces and nephews.
Don’s legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply. He will be profoundly missed and forever cherished.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 9, at Kilmarnock Baptist Church, with a visitation one hour prior. Interment will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 19, at Morattico Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Kilmarnock Baptist Church to the media ministry and to the education and scholarship fund.
