Dr. Marshall J. Waple Jr.

REHOBOTH BEACH, DEL.—Dr. Marshall Jackson Waple Jr., DVM, 97, of Rehoboth Beach, Del., and formerly of Foxwells, passed from this earth on the evening of March 7, 2019, at his home.

He was born on June 27, 1921, in Washington, D.C., son of the late Marshall Jackson Waple and Ida Marie (Van Ryswick) Waple.

 Dr. Waple attended Virginia Tech University when it was Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1938, and then the University of Pennsylvania, where he completed his doctorate in veterinary medicine in 1943.

Dr. Waple then accepted his commission in the United States Army and then volunteered for service in the India-Burma campaign as a member of Merrill’s Marauders, receiving the Bronze Star for his service. After a lengthy recovery from his injuries incurred during his service, Dr. Waple met and then married the love of his life, Nancy in August 1946.  He then went into private practice in Alexandria for over 40 years. Dr. Waple was also a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association Honor Roll.

 Dr. and Mrs. Waple retired to Foxwells, splitting time between Owl’s Nest, the New Owl’s Nest Annex, and their winter residence in Grand Cayman, BWI.

 In addition to his parents, Dr. Waple was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy; his son, William Braxton Waple; his daughter, Anne DeNitto; his son-in-law, Monroe Whitton; his daughter-in-law, Candace Waple; his granddaughter, Elizabeth DeNitto; and his sister, Susie Bell O’Hazza.

He is survived by his sons, “Buzz” Marshall Jackson Waple III, Joseph V. Waple (Bristow), and James R. Waple (Angela); his daughter, Linda Whitton; his nine grandchildren; his six great-grandchildren; and his daughter-in-law, Pamela S. Waple.

 A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, Del., where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m. Private interment will be held at a later date at Historic Christ Church, Irvington.

 In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Dr. Waple’s memory to Guiding Eyes for the Blind, 611 Granite Springs Road; Yorktown Heights, NY 10598.
