To celebrate Independence Day in a traditional way, Dug In Farms will host a high noon watermelon seed spitting contest during its scheduled July 1-2 tastings featuring red, yellow and orange watermelons.
Contestants must register by 11:30 a.m. for each day’s event. All ages are welcome and each will receive a slice of watermelon from which to gather their best projectiles, said owner Carolyn Quinn.
Each day’s winner will take a home a free watermelon. The world record is 75 feet 2 inches set in 1995.
