Earth Day 5K and School Challenge set for April 20

The fifth annual Earth Day 5K on April 20 will feature the Run NNK School Challenge.

The challenge encourages schools to compete for cash prizes by fielding the largest numbers of registrations—students, teachers, parents and community runners and walkers—in the Earth Day 5K Race, reported organizer Bill Kirby.

The race will start at 8 a.m. in front of the Northumberland Historical Society, 86 Back Street, Heathsville. Prizes of $1,000 and $500 will be awarded to the high schools/middle schools (combined) with the most registrations. Public and private schools in Northumberland, Lancaster, Westmoreland, Richmond and Essex counties are eligible for the prizes.
