Elsie Mae Pittman Rose

UNION HALL—Elsie Mae Pittman Rose, 90, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2021 surrounded by her family.

Elsie was born in Lancaster County, in an area known as Regina, to Emory & Mary Pittman on May 1, 1931. She married Lacy Rose Sr. 70 years ago and lived in the White Stone area until 2012, when she went to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn & Brent Barrett of Union Hall.

In addition to her daughter Carolyn, Elsie is survived by her son, Lacy Rose Jr. (Jeanne) of White Stone, and a son-in-law, Wayne Harding of Balls Neck; seven grandchildren, Lisa Rose (Tony) of White Stone, Shannon Herring (Greg) of Wicomico Church, Shawn Rose (Lindsay) of Reedville, Matthew Harding (Tiffany) of Irvington, Taylor Barrett (Anna) of Virginia Beach, Zack Barrett (Lauren) of Roanoke, and Brandon Barrett (Sarah) of Germantown, Maryland; and 11 treasured great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lacy; and by her daughter, Glenna Mae Rose Harding of Balls Neck. Also preceding her in death were her brothers, Pierce, Peyton and Meredith Pittman; and her sisters, Fanniebelle Aldrich, Sue Warwick and Jane George. Her family rejoices in knowing she has been reunited with these loved ones.

Elsie was a devoted mother, grandmother (“Mammie”), sister, aunt and friend. She was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church for almost 70 years. She was well known for her delicious brownies, the many baby quilts she made and gave away, her gift of gab, and her ability to easily make new friends. She was an excellent bowler with years of perfect attendance at the Evans Bowling Center in Kilmarnock, where her record of high set still stands.

A service to celebrate her life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, October 3, at White Stone United Methodist Church. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the White Stone Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 272, White Stone, VA 22578.

Currie Funeral Home LLC of Kilmarnock handled the arrangements.
