LOTTSBURG—Ernest Labaron Charlie of Lottsburg died peacefully on June 26, 2022. 

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Florence Dobyns Charlie; one surrogate son, Curtis Smith; three sisters-in-law, Margaret Holden, Mae Hines and Lorraine Dobyns; two foster daughters; and many nieces and nephews.

 Mr. Charlie was born in Mobile, Alabama, on March 5, 1933.  He was educated in Mobile public schools and attended Tuskegee Institute in Alabama.  He pursued a military career at Ft. Holmberg, Maryland, Brookley U. S. Air Force Base in Mobile, and transferred to Wright-Patterson Air Force in Ohio. He retired to the Northern Neck in 1988 with Florence and enjoyed the land of pleasant living.

 The family received friends at the Berry O. Waddy Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Burgess from 5-7 p.m. July 8.  A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Paul’s Mission Catholic Church in Hague at 11 a.m. July 9, Rev. John O’Donohue, celebrant. Burial followed at the cemetery at the Old St. Paul’s Church grounds, where fellowship followed.

Memorial contributions may be made at the Riverside Hospice, 289 Hospital Road, Tappahannock, VA 22460, St. Paul’s Catholic Church Building Fund, or the charity of your choice. Memorial Masses are also appreciated.
