Families urged to join the ‘Bear Hunt’

The beloved children’s book, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, is celebrating 25 years and is inspiring some local young hunters to make the most out of a bad situation.

With schools closed for the remainder of the year, parents are desperately seeking ways to keep their kids engaged, reading and learning, while enjoying some quality family time. What better time than now to go on a bear hunt, thought Kilmarnock mom Mary Ketner Lorenzino, who shared the “Going on a Bear Hunt” community scavenger hunt on Facebook last week.

Lorenzino says she can’t take credit for the idea. It was an internet thing, she said.

The idea is simple. Parents can read the book, which was popular when most of the parents were kids themselves, to their young children or YouTube a read aloud version if they don’t have a hard copy. Then go on their own hunt around…[to-view-more]
