First-place Raiders claim top spots in district soccer, defeat Chargers, 7-1, in first round of region tourney

Rappahannock won the Northern Neck District regular season championship and recently advanced to the Region 1A semifinals with a 7-1 first-round win over Middlesex. The Raiders will host West Point, a 5-0 quarterfinal winner over Lancaster.

The Raiders also claimed the top two honors on the all-district team and placed eight on the first team.

Senior forward Luis Martinez-Silva was named player of the year and Jordan Clary was selected by peers as the coach of the year. The Raiders finished the regular season ranked third in the region.

Lancaster finished the year at 4-13 overall after losing to the Drifters in the region tournament. The Red Devils placed three on the all-district first team including junior forward and leading scorer River Diaz, who scored seven goals for the season. Junior midfielder Porter Pittman, who had four goals and six assists this year, and junior defender Nathan Meberg also earned first-team honors.
