Flag ceremony to honor the late Donald Benson Sr.

The Kilmarnock Museum on Wednesday, March 22, will host a flag presentation ceremony in memory of the late Donald Benson Sr.

Virginia Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security Robert “Bob” Mosier will present a flag to Darlene Griffin, whose husband, Donald Benson Sr., was killed in the line of duty while serving with the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, reported Kilmarnock Museum president Carroll Lee Ashburn.

Through some oversight, Griffin never received a flag at the time of Benson’s funeral service. Recently, the matter was brought to the attention of Gov. Glenn Youngkin and he immediately began the process to correct the situation, said Ashburn.

Benson, who died in November 1981, is remembered on the Kilmarnock Museum’s Wall of Valor….
