Frances Elizabeth Haynie, 84, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2024, at her home in Fairport surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Fauquier County, Frances spent her early years in Orlean before the family moved to Loudoun County where she enjoyed farm life. At the age of 14, Frances and her family moved to Northumberland County.

After graduating from Northumberland High School as salutatorian of 1958, she became a secretary at Huff & Puff Cat Food Company in Reedville. A year later, Frances married Willard Allen Haynie at Fairport Baptist Church while he was attending the Apprentice School at Newport News Ship-Building & Dry Dock Company. Frances served as homemaker and loving mother to her three sons in Yorktown until 2004, when she and Willard moved into their retirement years in Fairport.

Frances leaves a Christian witness and a legacy of faith in her Lord, Jesus Christ that blessed many. She offered faithful service to the Kingdom of God, teaching Sunday school, vacation Bible school, working in the church nursery and serving various offices at both Grafton Baptist Church and later Fairport Baptist Church.

Frances is survived by her husband of 65 years, Willard Allen Haynie of Fairport; her sons, Willard Allen Haynie Jr. (Ruby) of Newport News, Christopher Kirk Haynie (Kelley) of La Plata, Md., and Timothy Glenn Haynie (Shay) of Reedville; her brother, Gordon Hume Payne (Ruth) of Fredericksburg; and her sister, Peggy Jean Cruse (Larry) of Panama City Beach, Fla.; eight beloved grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Josie Anita Wharton Payne and Leslie Thomas Payne; and her nine brothers, Thomas, James, Randy, Raymond, Bill, Frank, Robert, Irvin and Earl.

Funeral arrangements are in care of Currie Funeral Home of Kilmarnock. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 4, at Fairport Baptist Church, 2399 Fairport Road, Reedville. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. at the church, with services beginning at 2 p.m., officiated by pastor Neale Schools. Interment will follow at Roseland Cemetery in Reedville, officiated by Rev.
