Garden club leads lesson on plants

On October 27, over 20 members of the Chesapeake Bay Garden Club (CBGC) visited Northumberland Elementary School where they explained to first graders how a seed grows into a plant and then become seeds.

The plant cycle is explained using the book, The Saved Seed by Emily Lackey.  The life cycle of the pumpkin is demonstrated in the book. 

Each class listened to the book when they returned from lunch, reported publicist Karen Luzuriaga. Of course, they were excited to see a pumpkin sitting at their tables.

Joanne Gills purchased the pumpkins and cut the tops off. Children were given scoops to get the seeds….
