Garland K. Dillard

HEATHSVILLEGarland Keith Dillard was born June 1, 1931, in United, West Virginia.

He grew up in United. Garland joined the United States Army and served his country honorably for 22 years. Garland served in two wars; Korea and Vietnam. He retired in 1971 as first sergeant with many Army awards and commendations. He won praise in the USA and Europe as noncommissioned officer in charge, NCOIC.

Garland and his wife ”Jenny” moved to Heathsville in 1995 and became one of the first homeowners in Betz Landing, a beautiful waterfront community. He helped establish the homeowners association, and served many years in leadership positions in the HOA.

Garland and Jenny attended the Heathsville United Methodist Church where he was a beloved, active and faithful Christian. He also was an active Mason in local Masonic Lodges.

In all endeavors and circumstances, in good times and bad times; you could count on Garland Dillard to do something. He helped, he served, he gave; willingly and earnestly whenever the opportunity occurred.

He loved gardening, boating, golfing, games and walking in the neighborhood.

Garland died in his bed, with his wife Jenny at his side on August 9, 2022.

He was preceded in death by two sons; Gerald and Gary Dillard and 11 siblings.

He is survived by his wife, Jenny; sons, Dana Roy Dillard and Charles Emmett Dillard (wife Angela Dillard); 10 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 17, in the chapel of Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock.
