Genevra G. Burgess

HEATHSVILLE—Genevra Gaskins Burgess at the age of 92 went peacefully to be with the Lord on August 5, 2023, surrounded by her family. She resided in Heathsville, and was predeceased by her loving husband, Jesse L. Burgess Jr., her parents, Charles E. Gaskins Sr. and Margaret Elma Gaskins; her sister Margaret Gaskins Evans; and her brothers, Charles E. Gaskins Jr. and Lloyd E. Gaskins Sr.

Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Theresa B. Kubicki and Rebecca L. Burgess; one sister, Jacqueline G. Scott; three grandchildren Cullen B. Kubicki, Jessica L. Kubicki-Moore and Monica L. Burgess; five great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins.

She had many special friends who enriched her life.

Genevra attended William and Mary College and briefly taught school while her husband attended college. She spent many years in Silver Springs, Maryland, and then relocated to Heathsville for the remainder of her life. She died peacefully in her home.

She was an accomplished seamstress and an avid bridge player. She participated in the Red Hatters Club, Northumberland Woman’s Club and was an active member of Fairfield Methodist Church. 

There will be a graveside interment for family only at Churchland Baptist Church, date to be determined later. There are plans for a family gathering post internment.    

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Breast Cancer Society or National Breast Cancer Foundation.
