Stormy, uneasy and ultimately sunny, few musical works better reflect the tempestuous moods of March than Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20.
The Northern Neck Orchestra, with soloist George Warren, will perform the concerto as part of “An Evening with Mozart.”
The all-Mozart concert will be conducted by music director Michael Repper and include Eine Kleine Nachtmusik and Symphony No. 40.
The program will be presented March 23 at the St. Clare Walker Middle School Theater in Locust Hill and March 24 at the Northumberland High School Theater in Heathsville. The performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. A pre-concert talk by Repper will precede the concerts at 6:45 p.m.
“Often the backstory of Mozart’s compositions like this magnificent piano concerto, his personal life and the sources of his inspiration are as fascinating as the music itself,” said Repper.
Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor is regarded as a powerful piece, challenging the soloist with a mix of precision and passion, said Warren.
Single tickets are $30, at the door or www.northernneckorchestra.org. Students are admitted free with an online reservation.
