IRVINGTON—On November 30, 2024, Gerald Forest Hice, 83, of Irvington died from complications after suffering a stroke.
Born May 17, 1941, in Hot Springs, N.C., Gerry was one of two children born to the late Ruby Lee and William Forest Hice.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Susan Hines Hice; daughter, Elizabeth “Liz” Budd (Ricky) of Strasburg; his grandchildren, Jeremy Budd (Melissa), Travis Budd, Brandon Budd (Tasha May) and Elizabeth Scott (Jon); and 10 great-grandchildren.
After graduating from the University of Virginia with a business degree, Gerry started his career in computer technology by joining IBM. Next, he joined ARIES Corporation, a startup computer software company. He then joined another startup firm in the Netherlands, Pandata Corporation.
His first assignment at Pandata was to author a book used as a guideline for the company titled System Development Methodology. After seven years, Gerry and his family moved back to the states when he joined Cap Gemini, Inc. Gerry’s final move was to join J.G. Van Dyke and Associates as vice president of technology. There he authored another book, Defense Management Systems, which was widely used by the U.S. Government Defense Department.
Gerry loved golf, boats and classic cars. Of those, his favorite was collecting and showing his cars. He was a member of the Memory Lane Car Club in Kilmarnock. His two very favorites were a bright red 1955 Chevy and a 1935 Ford with a rumble seat. He was very proud of his first-place finish at a local “Wings and Wheels” car show, where his Jaguar XKE took the honors out of 200 entries.
There will be a memorial service at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 28, at Rappahannock-Westminster Canterbury. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for donations to be made to Hospice of Virginia, P.O. Box 2098, Tappahannock, VA.
Currie Funeral Home LLC of Kilmarnock handled the arrangements.
