STAUNTON—Wayne Carroll Jones, 79, of Staunton passed away on December 2, 2024, at Shenandoah Hospice House in Fisherville after a courageous battle with cancer.
Wayne was born in Richmond on June 14, 1945, to Carroll Marcellous and Louise Cockrell Jones. He lived on Fleets Bay Road in Kilmarnock until age 6, when his family moved to Arlington. Wayne graduated from Wakefield High School in 1964 and was a veteran after serving in the Army Reserves.
Wayne worked in banking and that is where he met his future wife, Lesley Simmons. They married in October 1983. Together they owned and operated Springfield Seafood. After retirement, they made their home in Staunton.
Wayne always loved his family home at Sampson Wharf. He loved being on the Great Wicomico and visited whenever he could.
Along with his wife of 41 years, Wayne is survived by his son, Bryan C. Jones (Meghan) of Frisco, Texas; two stepsons, Peter Moss of Staunton and Kenny Moss (Alisha) of Verona; grandsons, Aydan Jones and Kyngston Jones; and stepgranddaughter, Morgan Moss; brother, Dr. Ron Jones (Bonnie) of New Port, N.C.; his sister, Lynne Jones Balderson (William) of Heathsville; and nieces and a nephew.
A celebration of life will be held in spring 2025.
