MECHANICSVILLE—Geraldine Mae Viar, “Gerri” Clark, 89, of Mechanicsville, formerly of Lady Lake, Fla., Heathsville and Culpeper, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2018.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 70 years, Albert L. Clark; three sons, Glenn Clark (Nancy), Wayne Clark (Kristi), Jesse Clark (Andrea); two daughters, Sharon Clark, Nancy Clark Postans (Jeff); 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; sisters Shirley Viar Faulconer, Marjorie Viar Green; brother-in-law, Harding Lonas, sisters-in-law, Indiana Clark Shepp, Mary Clark Lagomarsino; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Jesse James Viar and Virginia Gertrude Viar; brother, James Viar; and sisters, Ruth Viar Bailey, Louise Viar Potter, Vernette Viar Hundley and Janet Viar Lonas.
She was a member of the Virginia Flying Farmers serving in various positions including queen; a member of the International Flying Farmers serving one year as duchess; and was a member of the following Northumberland County organizations: Republican Committee, Republican Women’s Club, Junior Woman’s Club, and was recognized as Virginia Woman of the Year in Aviation by the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Aviation.
Before retirement she was an active member of Smithland Baptist Church in Heathsville.
In her retirement in Florida, she became an avid golfer, hitting three holes-in-one at the ages of 79, 80 and 83. She did volunteer work for Centsible Furnishings (supporting Love, INC) at Summerfield, Fla.; was an active and founding member of the First Baptist Church of The Villages.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 1, at Smithland Baptist Church, Heathsville, with grandsons, Rev. Casey Clark and Rev. Nathan Clark officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made in her name to the charity of your choice.
