Gilbert S. Parker

Gilbert S. Parker

KILMARNOCK—Gilbert Stanley Parker was born on March 3, 1938, and entered into rest on Monday, September 28, 2020, at the age of 82.

He was the son of the late John Henry Parker and Sadie Billings White Parker. He was born in Foxwells, and was a native of White Stone.

He was a godly Christian man and a longtime member of Saint Helen Episcopal Church, Beaufort, S.C. He was a good man who loved his friends and neighbors, extending his name where needed.

He was “A Fisherman of the Sea” and loved boats. He strongly believed in paying his bills promptly.

Gilbert served two years in the Army Engineers and worked 29 years with Gulf/Chevron. He retired from Texaco Oil Company at the early age of 55. He did so in order to raise his 2 sons (10 and 12 years old) who lost their mother at the very young age of 47.

He is preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his two sons, Jean Vanlandingham Parker; his second wife, Wilhelmina Ramney Parker; and his only sibling, John Henry Jr.

He leaves behind his two beloved sons, David Bryan and Ryan Keith (Jamie); and his cherished niece, Cathy Parker; as well as Patsy Bickley, his loving friend and companion of nine years.

The family received friends from 4-6 p. m. Friday, October 2, at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock. A celebration of his life was held at 2 p. m. Saturday, October 3, at the funeral home followed by graveside service at Historic Christ Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Foundation for Historic Christ Church, P. O. Box 24, Irvington, VA, in his memory.
