HEATHSVILLE—Gladys Elise Vito passed on Friday, September 25, 2020. She was born in Fredericksburg on October 2, 1947, to the late Hjalmar (John) and Dorothy Haaland.
Having retired as a secretary for the federal government for the bulk of her career, Gladys was able to devote much of her time to the people and the things she loved most. Always a true and loyal friend, she lived a life full of laughter and love.
While she loved to travel with her husband exploring new places and experiencing all the joys of what the world offers, her heart always remained in her beloved home on the water in Heathsville. Hosting Scrapbook and Mahjong parties, doing crafts, playing games, gardening, and spending time with family and friends brought the most joy to her life. She especially loved the time she spent with her grandchildren and watching them grow. Her love of games and crafts made it so easy to stay young. Always exceptionally good-natured, she had a beautiful laugh which was always infectious to those around her.
She is survived by her loving husband, Douglas A. Vito; her sons, Greg (Caroline) Blount of Castle Rock, Colo., and Thomas (Angela) Blount of Gainesville; stepchildren, Anthony (Phyllis) Vito of Dumfries, Lisa (Paul) Guarino of Duxbury, Mass., and Michael (Joyce) Vito of Bealeton; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Gladys was the kindest, sweetest person always giving of herself to anyone who needed it most, and she will be missed greatly by so many.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at a later date.
