HANOVER—According to an August 8 media release from the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), Motley Allen Haynie, 29, of Heathsville was arrested after soliciting a minor for sex.
In July, Haynie had an online conversation with an HCSO investigator posing as a minor and attempted to arrange a meeting for sex. He was arrested on July 25 without incident and charged with two felonies for solicitation of a minor; a felony for solicitation of child pornography and a felony for indecent liberties with a minor.
A hearing to appoint counsel is scheduled for Friday, August 16. He is currently being held at Pamunkey Regional Jail in Hanover County.
Investigators said “there is reason to believe Haynie may have engaged in this type of behavior before” and are looking for other victims associated with Haynie in the past.
In September 2023, Haynie, a former deputy with the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, pleaded guilty in Lancaster General District Court to misdemeanors for solicitation of prostitution and contributing to the delinquency of a minor under a plea agreement brokered by a special prosecutor, Stafford County Commonwealth’s Attorney Eric Olsen. Haynie was originally charged with felonies for using a computer to solicit a minor and soliciting prostitution from someone under the age of 16.
Chief Judge David B. Caddell Jr., sitting in for Judge John S. Martin who had recused himself, sentenced Haynie to 12 months on each charge with all but three months suspended and allowed Haynie to serve his sentence on weekends.
As part of the agreement, Haynie was to successfully complete a counseling program and pay $1,161.72 in court costs. At sentencing, a September 25, 2024, hearing in Lancaster General District Court was scheduled to review whether court mandated counseling had been completed.
