Helen D. N. Conaway

TAPPAHANNOCK—Helen Denise Newton Conaway of Heathsville, daughter of the late Edward and Helen Ray Newton, died Saturday, November 25, 2023.

Helen was born September 11, 1958, in Northumberland County. She was educated in the Northumberland County School Division and earned her certification in nursing from Rappahannock Community College.

Helen was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, Heathsville.

In September 1978, Helen joined the Army and was stationed at Fort Jackson in South Carolina. She was later honorably discharged.

Helen gained part-time employment with the Little Sue Convenience Store in Callao, where she advanced to store manager. She also was employed as a home health care aide for many years. Helen moved to Baltimore, Md., in 1992 where she worked as a home health aide for James Davis. She returned to Heathsville in 2003.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Keith Conaway; and brothers, Leon, James, Robert and George Newton.

She is survived by daughters, Dondrea Conaway of Owings Mills, Md., and Tiffanie Conaway of Baltimore, Md.; brother, William Newton of Mobile, Ala.; grandchildren, Alexis, Marquese, Jalen, Shawntae, Ajia, Kiyah, Alajiah, Jesse, Talia and Tiyler; and great-grandchildren, Aaliyah, Aarionn, Degas, Brailyn and King.

A celebration of life was held Saturday, December 9, at Macedonia Baptist Church.
