Helen O. M. Carter

WEEEMS—Helen Oneita Morris Carter died August 11, 2023, at the Lancashire Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Kilmarnock.

She was born April 20, 1933, in Ditchley to Amie Mattie Lee and Charles Frank Morris.

Mrs. Carter was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church, Kilmarnock, where she was a member of the junior choir, senior choir, gospel chorus, usher board, kitchen committee and women’s missions.

She attended Rappahannock Community College where she received her Certified Nursing Assistant License. Before retiring from the Lancashire, she was promoted to physical therapist which she loved. She attended night classes at the local high school and became a skilled seamstress.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Luther L. Carter; and her parents; and her siblings.

She is survived by her daughter, Joyce “Yvonne,”; son, Gerald Leburn; grandchildren, Davida Phillips, Mahalia and Medina Carter, and Ali Reza Hashimi and Mariam Hashimi; five great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral was held August 18 at Calvary Baptist Church. Interment followed at Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery, Weems.
