Theresa Corean Bea Cox

KILMARNOCK—Theresa Corean Bea “Treasy” Cox died Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at the Bon Secours Community Hospice House, while attended by members of her family and friends.

She was born on August 3, 1931, in Crisfield, Md.

Theresa attended Avalon Graded School and Julius Rosenwald High School in Reedville. As a teenager she would substitute for her mother on the Golden Light Quartet with Hayes B. Lewis. She went to Galilee United Methodist Church in Edwardsville and later Calvary Baptist Church in Kilmarnock where she was a member of the gospel chorus and choir.

She worked as a housekeeper for many years.

She was predeceased by her parents, Hiram Carroll Bea and Freedel Julia Noel-Bea; her husband, Jacob Cox; her daughter, Jocellyn Marie Cox; her brothers, Hiram Carroll Bea Jr., Ray Bea and Arthur Bea.

She is survived by sisters, Elsie Cleo Jackson of Heathsville and Iris Ball of Teaneck, N.J., and brother; Thomas Bea of Hague.

A funeral was held September 1 at Calvary Baptist Church. Interment followed in the Calvary Baptist Church Memorial Cemetery, Kilmarnock.
