HEATHSVILLE—Henry Staton Patterson Jr., 66, of Heathsville passed from this life on November 10, 2024, in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Staton, as he was known by friends and family, was born on July 28, 1958, in Richmond to the late Henry Sr. and Virginia Patterson. He spent his childhood and early adulthood in the west end of Richmond. He graduated from Douglas Freeman High School and briefly attended Ferrum College. He left college early to pursue a career in carpentry.
He would often proudly proclaim that he went into business for himself at age 20. He was passionate about and dedicated to his career as a master carpenter and later as a homebuilder. He framed numerous houses and built several in Richmond as a young man.
After moving to and living briefly in Raleigh, N.C., with his parents, his sister and her family during his middle years, he spent a summer in Ophelia at his parents’ beloved river cottage. It was there that he met his future wife, Anna Beth McMahan. The couple married in 2005 and enjoyed a quiet and happy life raising their three children in Northumberland County. With his wife he created Patterson Builders, LLC and took pleasure building and renovating homes in Northumberland and Westmoreland counties.
Staton was an energetic, unique and outgoing man who lived life to its fullest. He loved playing his guitar and was passionate about his favorite music, which he played at full blast and with great enthusiasm. He was usually smiling and laughing about something and brought a feeling of excitement to every gathering. His energy and unique mannerisms will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. The world is a much quieter place without Staton!
Staton is survived by his wife, Anna Beth; and his children, Henry Staton III, Spencer Nicholas and Amelia Ruby Elizabeth. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Paige and Dennis Person, as well as their children, Cody Person and Caitlin Person.
There will be a private graveside service at Old Fairfields Cemetery, Edwardsville. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests remembrances can be made through contributions to the American Cancer Society.
Currie Funeral Home LLC of Kilmarnock handled the arrangements.
