Historic funeral procession to highlight Heathsville Farmers Market on Oct. 15

The public is invited to witness an historical funeral procession at Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern, 73 Monument Place, Heathsville, on October 15 as part of the Heathsville Farmers Market.

The grave of Capt. Griffin Foushee, a veteran of the War of 1812 and an owner of the Tavern during the mid-1800s, was found languishing in a nearby cornfield by local historians. His remains will now be given a place of honor in front of the Tavern, said executive director Corinne Becker.

The funeral procession will start at 10:45 a.m. and include an antique horse-drawn hearse, an 1812 color guard, bagpipes, drum and fife, riderless horse, eulogy, brief prayer and costumed mourners.
