The Garden Club of the Northern Neck on October 17 will host nationally recognized horticulturist Holly Shimuzu, interim executive director of the National Horticulture Society.
Formerly she held positions at the U.S. Botanic Garden in Washington, D.C., and Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Richmond.
“You may also recognize her from her 10 years as host on the popular PBS program ‘Victory Garden,’” said Fran King.
Shimuzu will share her extensive knowledge as she discusses “Gardening for Life,” especially highlighting plants that are successful where we reside here in Zone 7, said King.
The event will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at Good Luck Cellars, 1025 Goodluck Road, Kilmarnock. Tickets are $45 each, which includes light refreshments and a wine ticket. Additional libations may be purchased.
Mail ticket requests to Pam Minor, 4275 Oldhams Road, Hague, VA 22469. Enclose a check for $45 per reservation and include the names of all guests. Reservations will be ‘will call style’ at the door. Email questions to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Proceeds are used by the Garden Club of the Northern Neck to underwrite grants to send two teachers to a workshop each summer as well as grants for other civic projects in the four counties of the Northern Neck, said King.
