Market Day on Saturday to include silent auction

The Wicomico Parish Church 10th Market Day Silent Auction promises bargain hunters opportunities to snatch up a variety of well-maintained woodworking tools, commercial grade cooking equipment, boats, trailers and motors.

The Wicomico Parish Church Market Day will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, October 7, on the church grounds, 5191 Jessie Ball duPont Memorial Highway, Wicomico Church. The bidding will open at 8 a.m. and close at 10:30 a.m., or when the last bid has been received.

“Market Day is a fun fall festival with something for everyone,” said chairman Shawn Lamb. “It’s a day of greeting friends and neighbors at a beautiful, historic church while finding wonderful gently used treasures at bargain prices.”

“This year’s donations have exceeded all expectations,” she continued. “In addition to the silent auction, there will be household items and furniture, garden objects, books, sports and boat equipment, linens, toys, fine art and holiday décor, as well as the legendary men’s yard sale featuring hand and power tools. Savor the Seasons of the Northern Neck, a collection of Northern Neck recipes and activities that will be available for purchase.”

Wicomico Parish Church members will fill a gourmet pantry tempting visitors with foods such as soups, chowders, chili, pickles, jams, home-baked pies, cookies and cakes.

The Parish Artisan’s Corner will feature jewelry, hand knit shawls, a cookbook and gift items. Market Day vendors include Garner’s Produce, Ditchley Cider Works, Kilmarnock Popcorn Bag, Nancy Krogh’s Honey and the Northern Neck Native Plant Society with Sassafras Farms.

Visitors also will have an opportunity to tour the church guided by its historian. Established in 1647, the Church has been an important piece of Virginia’s colonial heritage and by 1771 was the largest in the Commonwealth.

Each year the church returns 100% of the Market Day proceeds to Northern Neck non-profit organizations, including area fire and rescue units, The Interfaith Council, The Link, The Haven, The Northern Neck-Middlesex Free Health Clinic, Meals on Wheels, Gleamers and Blenders, the Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Neck and the Northumberland Family YMCA.
