Ilse Frieda Clements

REEDVILLE—Ilse Frieda Clements of Reedville passed away January 18, 2022.

She was born Ilse Frieda Schnabel in Forstgen Saxony, East Germany, and she trained as a Lutheran nurse before escaping to West Germany.

In 1961, she immigrated to the U.S. where she taught herself English and met the love of her life, Ray Clements. They were married in 1963 between ship deployments. A dedicated military housewife, mother, sister and aunt with an unbounded love for animals. In her later years, she loved traveling with Ray and seeing the world.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Elfriede and Anneliese; her brother, Dieter; and many well loved furry family members.

She leaves behind her husband, Ray; her daughter, Heidi Bay and husband, Dan; her niece, Andrea Deppisch and husband, Bernd; her nephews, Peter and Bernd Sebbisch; two grandsons, RJ and Bryan; along with many great nieces and nephews.

She will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Animal Welfare League, P.O. Box 975, White Stone, VA 22578; or Northumberland County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 305, Heathsville, VA 22473.
