
HEATHSVILLE—Ilva Sue Battaglia Madej, 80, of Heathsville died on April 22, 2022.
Sue received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Maryland, her Associate Degree in nursing from Harford Community College and her Master of Science in health care education and administration from St. Joseph University.
She was certified in trauma and emergency care. Sue worked in hospitals in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, and was active in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Madej; three daughters and their spouses, Deborah and Stephen Scripture; Deirdre and Jim Schuetz; Jeanne Madej and Jim Pratt. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jared and Kelly Scripture, Joseph and James Scripture; Shealyn, Teressa, Justin and Michael Schuetz; and Harrison and Charleigh Pratt; and great-grandchildren, Noah, June and Emma Scripture.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. D.T. Battaglia and Ilva Tingle Battaglia Hughes. She was also preceded in death by her three brothers, Tom, Jack and Joe Battaglia.
Sue always said there were only a few things important to her…her faith, family, friends and patients. She was deeply committed to them as she loved and valued the relationships. She enjoyed traveling, was an avid reader, and loved the peace of sitting by the ocean.
A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at St. Francis de Sales Church, Kilmarnock. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the charity of choice.
