IRVINGTON—After years of residents’ concern, steps are being taken to increase pedestrian safety through additional sidewalks along a section of King Carter Drive.
During a Thursday, July 9, town council meeting, facilities committee chairman Samantha Van Saun provided an update regarding sidewalk planning. She said the town did not receive the Ready, Set, Go grant they had applied for, and are scaling back plans for the moment.
According to Van Saun, the committee is narrowing its focus to the more “dangerous” stretch along the major curve on King Carter Drive in front of Aqua Virginia property.
So far, Van Saun said they’ve reached out to Aqua to ensure they are in support of adding a sidewalk along that stretch, since much of it would be on their property, and the company had no objection.
