HEATHSVILLE—Northumberland supervisors appear ready to develop a plan for the portfolio of county owned land in order to bring revenue back to the county. On Thursday, July 9, supervisors discussed the possibility of timbering, selling or finding better uses for land that has been sitting idle for years.
Daniel Deitz, forester for Three Rivers Forestry, gave a preliminary review of the roughly 500 acres of county owned land with timber. Deitz reviewed the condition and value of the timber as well as advising on when to harvest. Deitz did the work free of charge for the county.
While some sites, like the 13-acre parcel where the old Callao dump was, are limited for harvesting due to the topography, others, like the 77 acres behind the animal shelter, have potential. “It’s a great size tract and should be managed a lot better than what it is….
