IRVINGTON—Despite years of trying to remove the real estate tax in Irvington, Wayne Nunnally’s latest attempt to cut the cost was again shot down during the May 8, Irvington Town Council meeting.
Budget and finance chairman Mary Cary Bradley presented the proposed $603,205 2025-26 fiscal year budget for its first reading. It includes about a 2% increase over the current $592,874 budget, primarily driven by local sales and use tax.
The real estate tax, which is set at a rate of $0.0215 per $100, was originally put in place years ago in order to offset funds the town thought it was losing when it appeared the Tides Inn may cease operations, said councilman Nunnally.
