IRVINGTON—Speeding along Irvington Road and down King Carter Drive have been major concerns for residents for years. During a Thursday, August 13, town council meeting, Deputy Norman Sibley with the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department shared some insights and suggestions regarding the persistent issue.
According to Sibley, patrolmen throughout Lancaster County are advised to hold off on writing speeding tickets until a driver exceeds speeds more than 15 miles per hour than the posted speed limit. While truck traffic and speeding are major concerns in much of the town’s 25 mile per hour zones, Sibley suggested the town reach out to the sheriff to state their case, noting why they might like to see the ticket-writing threshold lowered in Irvington.
Sibley said they certainly pull people over for less, but refrain from writing tickets unless they exceed the 15 mile per hour threshold.
Golf carts and off-road vehicles are also turning heads on Irvington Road. According to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), golf carts are not permitted to cruise on Irvington Road….
