Irvington wordsmiths reviewing ordinances

IRVINGTON—The Irvington planning commission is considering proposed changes to town ordinances regarding accessory structures and farm animals.

Members Marston Smith and Jeremy Taylor were previously tasked with finalizing several proposed language suggestions. With growing interest in raising chickens for hobby, Smith and Taylor revisited the matter in the code.

According to chairman Tom Chapman, commission members previously had come to the consensus that chickens should be allowed within the town. However, no roosters or geese were to be permitted.

Smith said he and Taylor had determined appropriate language for the code would specify that no large animals such as horses or pigs were to be allowed.
