MILA NECK—Jack “Jody” Sprague, 52, of Mila Neck passed away January 11, 2022.
From a young age, his calling was carpentry, a talent which he combined with his winning charm and ability to connect with people into a long and successful career as a contractor and businessman. While he built many beautiful homes along the way, the family that he built is his most impressive accomplishment and that legacy was his greatest joy.
He is survived by his wife, Georgia Sprague; children, Emily Sprague, Matthew Sprague, Shelby Sprague and Brody Sprague; parents, Norman and Rio Sprague; sister, Dana Welch (Alan); niece, Ashly Hudson (Josh) and nephews, Justin Welch (Marianna) and Daniel Smith (Megan).
Whether on the water or in the woods, Jody’s love of the outdoors was well known and that was where he was most at peace. He also loved this community where he grew up. After many years away, he and his family returned to Northumberland County in 2008 where he was truly in his element, surrounded by his family and friends, old and new.
Jody had a presence that just drew people to him. Effortlessly, he was the center of attention in almost every situation—the brightest light in the room. He was the rare soul who had his own gravitational pull. It was nearly irresistible. For so many whose lives he touched, he was a part of their greatest adventures. This was not a coincidence, rather, it was because he brought out the mischief in even the most staid personality (in the best way). His friends will attest to this.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, who treasure the time we had with him and loved him dearly.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 22, at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock.
